2. Log into energyhelpline and get a quotation. (Just because you take a quotation you don’t have any commitment to switch.so try your luck and see)

3.Select a cheap supplier from the quotation and Enter the necessary details. Then you can Sit back and relax. Energy helpline will do the rest for you. They will call your old supplier so no Hassel for you. After completing the request it takes up-to 21 days for the switching process to complete. You won’t notice any different during this period. Once the switch is confirmed you will receive a letter from your new energy supplier.

FEW USEFUL FACTS BEFORE SWITCH

1.Dual fuel tariff (means getting gas and electricity from the same supplier) are generally cheaper and easy to manage as you get only one bill. You have the option of selecting dual fuel tariff or single fuel tariff when you are getting the quotation. I recommend duel fuel tariff but there is no harm selecting gas and electricity suppliers separately if you can get better deals.

2.There are two main types of tariffs – Variable rate tariffs and fixed-rate tariffs.

In fixed-rate tariffs, your energy unit price is fixed for 12 to 24 months. In variable tariff, energy unit price fluctuates with the market price.

In general, fixed-rate tariffs are cheaper. But select what is cheaper in your quotation. Some fixed priced tariffs come with an exit fee if you leave before your contract period ends (10-50 pounds).

3.If you want to stay environmental friendly you can select a green energy tariff. (Energy produce from renewable sources like solar power and wind). some providers are 100% green where are others provide different percentages of green energy.

4.Energy switch only occurs on paper, so no new installation of wires or tubes and your energy supply will not be disrupted.

5.your energy provider cannot object energy switch. If you are in debt for more than 28 days pay your bill before the switch. If it is less than 28 days, there is no restriction and they will add the amount to your last bill.

6.Economy 7 meters are special meters for economy seven tariff. If you have one of these, you will be aware of it. (This will be asked when you are getting the quotation so you can say no)

7.There are more than 50 energy suppliers in the UK. SSE, EON,Scottish power, British gas,  Npower, and EDF Energy, control 70% percent of the energy market in the UK and there are called the big six companies. There is no added advantage of getting energy from them. In fact, their standard variable tariffs are the most expensive in the market.

8.Bulb energy, Shell energy, Ebico energy, octopus energy, peoples energy, So energy, pure planet (digital-only so no customer support over the phone), and Ovo energy are small to medium energy companies in the market with good customer reviews. Read top energy providers in 2020

If you want to switch to someone in the market for some time select one of above mentioned companies  when you get the quotation. At least one of them will be there among the cheapest.

Having said that I don’t think there is any problem in selecting the other suppliers. Customers will always be protected from Ofgem (Energy regulatory body) regulations. Even if your supplier goes busted your energy supply will not be disrupted and your credit balance will be protected.
